Welcome to our new homepage

DanAdopt was founded in 1964 as a private non-profit organisation, authorised by the Danish Ministry of Justice to place foreign children in Danish adoptive families. Every year, DanAdopt places approximately 200 children in new adoptive families throughout Denmark.

DanAdopt’s vision is to ensure the right of every child to grow up in a family. DanAdopt’s activities fully comply with the international adoption convention:

• Focus is on the child, i.e. all efforts must aim at the benefit of the child.
• Ethics is a key word, which includes the legal rights of the child as well as compliance with all relevant laws and conventions.
• The activities must be carried out in mutual respect for cultural differences and the local conditions in the cooperating countries.

DanAdopt works internationally to ensure that children stay in their native country, either with their own family/relatives or alternatively in a national adoptive family. In the cases where none of these options are available, international adoption may be a possibility. In these cases DanAdopt seeks to place foreign children in Danish families, which have been approved for adoption by authorities in Denmark.

DanAdopt is engaged in international relief work in cooperating countries through Dan-Aid. The relief work is not related to adoption, but consists mainly of financial support for projects involving children, young people or families. The aid also includes salary and education (sponsorships) for relief staff and medical treatment. 100% of all contributions are forwarded to the various projects.

DanAdopt also works to improve the interests and needs of adopted children and adoptive parents, in close cooperation with the Danish authorities.
